A response to another frequently asked question

We will provide instructions on how to apply the patch when we’re done. It won’t be too difficult for those that are new to patching games.

Please note that we do not approve piracy in any form. Do not download an ISO through the internet. Purchase the game legally yourself, and then create the ISO yourself for patching. Do not pirate the game!

  1. El ruso says:

    of course not

  2. Melissa says:

Thanks for saying that! It’s really cool that you make it clear you’re against piracy, it’s not like the game is that expensive even if you do end up importing it.
I bought the game last year when I went to Hong Kong but wasn’t sure I’d ever manage to play it. And I’ve never installed a patch before, so that was really reassuring to hear that you’ll give us instructions. You guys rock!!

    • Coled says:

Even if it were expensive, with the prequels it had i wouldn’t mind saving pocket money for year XD. But still nice i never installed a patch as well XD.

  3. Dongs says:

There’s a livepatch plugin for CFW that makes possible to play a legit copy of a game off an UMD with a patch applied, can’t you use that? Disassembling UMD and ripping it is a way bigger hassle than torrenting a game, so I really doubt many people will do that, even if they bought the game.

    • Trip says:

Ah, this is the same one that people use for the slowdown fix for Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, right?

    • S. says:

Ripping an ISO from UMD is as simple as mounting the UMD driver over USB and copying the file.

You’d probably want to make additional modifications before trying to run it from flash afterwards, but it isn’t really any more hassle than a torrent. I do this to all my UMDs for the convenience and battery life of playing everything from flash, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

  4. Makaia says:

Suppose the patch works well with psp, but does it works with ps vita?
I gave away my psp to my nephew.
Psp are sold only in a few places now days, it’s kind of hard to get another, so i bough a Vita.
I know my way around getting it (ISO) to port to vita, but the applied patch will it work on vita?

  5. ThtDudeAvran says:

I guess that means we should get our copies of VC:3 soon for patching

  6. nicko says:

like going to get a patch without cfw? ¬ ¬ illogica………..l the patch needs pirated psp helloooooooooooo …..

    • CFW is in a tricky grey area in terms of legality and installation. But still, the general point remains. Don’t pirate Valkyria Chronicles 3. Purchase the game. Don’t download it off some website. Buy it/import it from a retailer.

      • ZeroB says:

I find it so interesting that you advocate we dont pirate the game, but instead buy it. do you understand the implications of that? you and your teammates have spent close to a year working on this project, and have refused any donations from people. if we go and buy the game strictly because of your patch, then the company is making money off of you for a service YOU provided and did not get compensated for. you are basically an unpaid employee. this might not make sense to you, but i think we SHOULD pirate the game out of respect for you and your team :)

      • Don’t pirate it. Seriously. Support SEGA to keep making these games. Beyond the very good legal reasons to not accept money, think of it this way. If SEGA didn’t get ANY money for VC3, they wouldn’t think of making a VC4 for a translation patch in the first place!

      • Release the PATCH, then I’ll buy the Game, ok? :) I have to be sure.

  7. henry says:

already own it and eagerly waiting to finally play it in english :)

    • darkheart says:

hello henry me too………I do not know how many missions are. I’ve done 186 in S and 2 in A but more because I think they are the end all missions or circle the item turns red or gold (S) but I have an item in blue … and I think there is no unlock missions yet.

  8. Coled says:

If you have a few minutes, can please update the current progress page? I know you’re having progress and probably a decent amount, but i just want to know how close are you to the light at the end of the tunnel.

  9. OnaniMaster.ZM says:

^ What he said. If possible, please update~ I want to know how close it is to completing so badly.

  10. Das_S says:

Thats what i did, put a Custom Firmware on my PSP (2000 Model) and began ripping my Games to play directly from Memorystick, what can i say, it breezed a second live in my PSP, no more long UMD Load Times, no more low Battery Life because of the UMD Drive spinning, its like a new system, and i love it again, have to thank this project for this, without you guys and the chance to play VC 3 in English i would never (or at least not in the foreseeable future) have done this.

went to Ebay yesterday and paid around 40€ for VC3 Extra Edition, all thats missing now is the patch.

  11. Ghost ic0n says:

Besides, it’s pretty simple anyways: If you love the game so much and are waiting for the patch oh so desperately, then why pirate the game? Just buy it people!

And as a side note; I’d like to see SEGA’s reaction after seeing (probably) the sells suddenly rise for VC3 (especially importing to English native countries) after (or close) to when the patch is released. :D

  12. MarigoldFleur says:

It’s a longshot, but will this work with my PSN copy? I’ve got a UMD version but I already have the PSN version on my card.

  13. gabrinius says:

let me ask…how i make an ISO with the UMD ?

do the cd-rom drives of PCs read it ?

  14. Eien says:

I imported mine lol. It was worth it tbh. Even without understanding the plot that much i enjoyed every single hour i spent playing it :D

  15. Genesis says:

A question if I may. Will the patch work with the extra edition or only with the original?

  16. eXaphor says:

    Hello team,

Just wonder if you can put any updates about this project? I mean on the “Current Progress” page, I’m sure each of us would like to see it as well. :)

    Thanks.

  17. NOOB says:

please help …I do not know how many missions are. I’ve done 186 in S and 2 in (A) but more because I think they are the end all missions or circle the item turns red or gold (S) but I have an (item) in blue … and I think there is no unlock missions yet…..Anyone know if more ?..THANKS

  18. Damian says:

I know this might been seen as a dumb question. But as there is no answer on your FAQ I feel need to ask it here.

I have never modded my PSP before so is there a type of custom firmware or mod that you feel is the best to work with the patch or will any one do.

I was thinking of getting the PRO-B firmware because I wanted to get the ProjetDIVA translation patch as well.

  19. brymut says:

Only because of your hard work I ordered VC3:EE copy from cdjapan.co.jp , but I’m curious how a SEGA sales department will react when game sales will go sky high just after a release English patch.

    • DavidTheSlayer says:

/warning, rant….If anything it will wake Sega’s dumb marketing department up and show we do care about these games if they release them properly and not two year down the line like MHP3rd with differnet DLC content compared to the Japs. Translations – well they simply don’t understand they need to be done whilst the game is in development not after, by this, I mean that if they finalised the name of a something in Japanese, its then ready to be localised. For some reason they simply cannot see this, its down to dumb project management. This is why translations for projects create late and over budget projects at my work place, because they think they can do it at the end of the game, then they look at the cost and go oh its too expensive.

They also need to target the bigger consoles and PC not just PSP anymore. Why they don’t take note of our many petitions I have no idea, they also barely advertise the games over here if at all. /endofrant.

On topic: Keep up the good work guys, you’re my heroes as this game is epic and your team is also epic, you all should be nominated for an award or something.

      • Guy says:

They are already targeting the PC with their new game: Valkyria Chronicles Duel.

      • DavidTheSlayer says:

Thanks Guy for the info, I forgot about that one, but its not Val Chron in the way I like it so lets wait for this!

    • Ghost ic0n says:

VC4 will be in English if our rebellion is a success! XD

    • Ledah says:

All we can do is hope that SEGA takes a look on this page ^^

      • brymut says:

I don’t know if it’s a good idea to let SEGA ‘officially know’ what’s going on here. If I remember correctly CAPCOM, SquereEnix and SEGA shot down some fan-made projects (translations, remakes, ports etc.) in the past because of so called ‘copyright claims’.
Still I think that after game translation is complete, the team of vc3translation should at least start kickstarter campaign to license and release VC3 on US/Europe PSN or on UMD… (cost of releasing UMD deluxe edition of Class of Heroes 2 cost around ~500k USD, so PSN release should be cheaper).

  20. oneal says:

Can this patch be applied to an already patched ISO?

    • Ghost ic0n says:

Most likely not. Every other patch released by every other group for every other game required an untouched/unpatched .ISO.

  21. cj_iwakuraj says:

Hey all, love the work so far. Would you mind if I asked who helped you with hacking the game? We need assistance with a certain other PSP RPG near and dear to niche games(hint: it rhymes with Tatsu and involves positivity), and we’re looking for hacking assistance. Translators couldn’t hurt either. I hate to be a shill, but this was the only avenue I could find for contacting you guys.
    Thanks a bunch.

  22. kickass says:

great work guys :] i already oreder it i hope when it comes in my hands that i can ad this patch

  23. John Siddle says:

My import just arrived today. Is there any way I would be able to extract an .iso if I have a PSP-3001? All tutorials I’ve found online are for 1000′s or 2000′s.

  24. m13romeo says:

Hey! This may just be another comment but seriously.. thank you guys for doing this. You guys are awesome.

  25. Billoy Labay says:

I am so excited. Thank you!

  26. Ledah says:

Daily check here! I comment to cheer you up guys!!! Hope for a fast a good progress. We all believe in you!

  27. olivier says:

    Thx for your work !

  28. Das_S says:

    PSP: Check
all thats missing is you Guys ; )

    • DavidTheSlayer says:

      Yeah same here…

      Dear Santa,

Please can we get a release for the Valkyira Chronicles 3 translation project this Chirstmas or for New Year! I’ve been a very good boy, studied hard and eagerly await this fantastic piece of work by a talented team.

      Yours Sincerely,

      David

PS: Milk and choc-chip cookies next to my fireplace for you!

  29. kickass says:

  30. GrimbySlayer says:

  31. Zeru says:

KEEP IT UP! KEEP IT UP! KEEP IT UP! YAY!

  32. Tedulous says:

is there any updates on this yet? you guys havent made a post in awhile

  33. Billoy Labay says:

    9 days ’til Christmas! :>

  34. Ledah says:

Huff I’m totally forgetting the time T__T its too soon! *1st time I say that in my life!*

  35. Interweb Samurai says:

Stop with the annoying begging already. I actually hope the patch is released well after Christmas just to spite you ungrateful pests.

    • Sunstorm says:

Ungrateful PESTS? Someone ban this heathen!!!!

    • Ledah says:

¬¬ nobody is begging here… no need to be bothered… we are cheering us up and cheering the team up… never heard of xmas feeling?
We all know that the patch will be released when it’s done… Not earlier and may even later after a few checks… so its not to expect that early XD but the hope keeps the spirit of the fans alive.
The thing is , calm down be happy XD there is no need to get in a bad mood!
…Don’t worry, beee happy ^^ *whistle*

    • Ghost ic0n says:

Nobody was being ungrateful; they’re only excited about the possible xmas surprise release. If you read properly, then you’d be able to tell nobody’s literally asking the team for a christmas release, but only speculating it. If you think the fans here aren’t allowed to do that, then you should get your definition of “freedom of speech” straight.

    • Interweb Samurai says:

Release date begging is the bane of the freeware community. Unless the author has specifically given you a release date, it’s release date begging. Stop acting like a bunch of ungrateful 7 year olds. It’s the author’s right to set a release date, not yours. Setting artificial release dates before the project is ready isn’t cheerful — it’s selfish and unfair to the translator. It’s not supporting the author whatsoever, it’s letting him know when you want it.

      • Sunstorm says:

So i guess calling us pests makes you a better person? How old are you? Like -7?

      • MarigoldFleur says:

Nobody is setting release dates. NOBODY. It’s simply been a lot of people saying how it’d be cool if a version of the patch saw a Christmas release.

      • There will be no more discussion on this. There is no release date planned, but several of our members have a winter break from schoolwork to spend their time working on the project.

    • Das_S says:

If they release the Patch around Christmas=Awesome
      If not, still no Problem

  36. TalesOfGod says:

*Cough* That’s Christmas feeling to spread around. Also, many of us are busy after Christmas so what’s wrong with wanting to have the game over the holidays? ^.^
Eggnog, a cozy chair and a new valkyria chronicles game to play! What’s not to enjoy? XD
*That is if we don’t die on the 21st LOL*

  37. ThatOneGuy says:

Where did people even get the idea of a christmas release? Chill off. It’ll come when it’s ready.

  38. Eien says:

    Merry Christmas guys!!!

  39. C-town says:

How can i get the file? I really need it guys.

  40. Zajebiste says:

would be cool if you guys could post a brief update on the project to let us know how things are!

  41. Dude says:

It wouldn’t hurt to update the current release page. That’s all I ask.

  42. MarigoldFleur says:

Happy belated new years, VC3 Translation Team!

  43. Lawrence says:

Yea, the translation is probably dead…..it was a good run though

  44. Alandria says:

Thanks for the wonderful project! I have purchased the Extra Edition, but I think I don’t know a way to use a ripped ISO on my PSP. T.T Still supporting you, though.

  45. I have a questions. I have the EXTRA EDITION of the game I imported… will the patch work with that or only the original edition. Thanks.

  46. Durask says:

Same here, just received my shrink-wrapped copy of the Extra Edition.
Would it be at all possible to provide a guide on how to rip the disk?
